On Saturday, 29th October 2022, DISTED College held its 30th convocation. This ceremony celebrated the graduation of 2022 cohort and acknowledged the class of 2020 and 2021 who were unable to attend their physical convocation in 2020 and 2021. The class of 2022 included a total of 136 graduands in the areas of, accounting, business, computer science, creative multimedia, engineering, English language, hospitality management, information technology and marketing.  In addition to the 72 DISTED College graduands, 56 bachelor graduates from Staffordshire University UK and 8 from HELP University received their degrees. Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, Chairman of Wawasan Education Foundation (WEF), officiated over the ceremony and congratulated the graduating class of 2022.

Professor Dr Brian Imrie, the DISTED Chief Executive Officer, commented within his convocation address that DISTED College has embedded within the curriculum and campus activities a respect for the environment. This is encapsulated within DISTED College mission statement, whereby “We collaborate to ensure graduates are change-makers and support the creation of a sustainable and inclusive world”. He commented further that DISTED College encouraged student to pursue the accumulation of technical knowledge and also to be independent problem-solvers to discover impactful solutions. His earnest hope to all graduands that they choose a life of service that will not only enrich themselves but also further the betterment of those within the community.

The valedictorian for this year’s Convocation was Ms. Lee Zhing Tian, who obtained First Class Honours in a Bachelor of Psychology (Hons) degree from HELP University. She attributed her academic success to DISTED’s supportive leadership. “They always support us in different ways, guiding us to find our path and grow into a better person” she said. Meanwhile, Ms. Hui Kay Theng, a graduate in Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Accounting & Finance 3+0 in Collaboration with Staffordshire Univeristy, UK with a CGPA 3.94, was the recipient of the Chairman’s Trophy as Best Graduating Degree Student. And, Mr. Bravo Ooi Si Kai, a graduate in Diploma in Computer Science with a CGPA of 3.91, was the recipient of the President’s Trophy as Best Graduating Diploma Student.

Since its inception in 1987, DISTED College has made a significant contribution towards developing the human capital that drives the nation’s second most industrialized state.  As Penang’s first private Not-for-Profit institution of higher learning, DISTED College is poised itself to further innovate with the appointment of a new senior leadership team and a refresh of its sub-degree curriculum. Its suite of bachelor degree programmes, delivered in partnership with Staffordshire University UK and HELP University, have already been revamped and include current industry 4.0 content to ensure DISTED College continue to be highly sought after.
