This section consists of relevant sites of high quality that are available free of charge via the Internet. It has been created to reduce the level of frustration of DISTED Library users in their struggle to identify Internet resources that are comprehensive, up to date and authoritative.

General & Reference
  • Google Book Search
    This website allows you search inside millions of books. Besides being able to see basic bibliographic information about the book you can also see a few sentences showing your search term in context. If the book is out of copyright, viewers are able to view and download the entire book.
  • Google Scholar
    Google Scholar provides a simple way to broadly search for scholarly literature. From one place, you can search across many disciplines and sources: peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, abstracts and articles, from academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories, universities and other scholarly organizations.
  • Wikipedia
    The biggest multilingual free-content encyclopedia on the Internet.
  • A Web of Online Dictionaries
    This site is a tapestry of dictionaries and related language resources and provides links to more than 400 dictionaries in 130 languages.
  • The World Factbook
    This online version of the CIA The World Factbook includes a great deal of information about the geography, demographics, government, and economy of more than 265 world entities.
  • Infoplease: All the Knowledge You Need
    This is a ready reference site to find basic information about a variety of subjects. It provides access to the contents of an encyclopaedia, a dictionary an atlas and several almanacs.

    “The world’s largest collection of open access research papers” provides access to more than 200,000,000 free to read full text research papers.
  • The Online Books Page
    Listing over 2 million free books on the Web.
  • Open Library
    Currently this website offers over 1.7 million public domain books in PDF, ePub, DAISY, DjVu and ASCII text through their affiliation with the Internet Archive.
  • Open Textbook Library
    Open textbooks are textbooks that have been funded, published, and licensed to be freely used, adapted, and distributed. These books have been reviewed by faculty from a variety of colleges and universities to assess their quality. These books can be downloaded for no cost, or printed at low cost. All textbooks are either used at multiple higher education institutions; or affiliated with an institution, scholarly society, or professional organization. The library currently includes about 800 textbooks, with more being added all the time.
  • PDFdrive
    PDF Drive is a search engine for PDF files. As of September 2020 They have  about 80 million eBooks to download for free.
  • Project Gutenberg
    This project has sought to put paper editions of older literary works that are in the public domain into electronic format.
  • OpenStax Textbooks
    OpenStax publishes high-quality, peer-reviewed, openly licensed textbooks that are absolutely free online and low cost in print. For all our available formats, visit openstax.org and select the subject that interests you.

Publishers of English Language Teaching materials have taken advantage of the Internet to give free access to high quality, up to date information and flexible resources including support materials to English Language teachers and professionals.

    The MIA is empowered by law as the authoritative body regulating the accounting profession in Malaysia.
