The student team, team 2 from Jit Sin High School took top honours for team category while Oong Jin from Chung Ling Private School won the individual champion at the 2nd Science Olympiad at DISTED College on Saturday, April 27, 2018.

The event was supported by DISTED’s academic partners, Toyohashi University of Technology (TUT) Japan, and the Malaysian Association of Science and Technology Innovation (ASTI). Distinguished guests, Dr Jayabalan A/L A. Thambyappa from ASTI and Mr Fong S.K., representative from TUT, Penang were invited to grace the event.

This year, the event brought together 10 schools. Some students participated in both the individual and team category. A total of 35 students competed in the individual category while some 15 teams made up of 4 participants per team vied for the team champion. Participants from both categories competed under intense pressure for 30 minutes to solve challenging problems in science.

After finalising the score , Jit Sin High School, Team 2 emerged as the team champion and walked away with a RM20,000 DISTED Scholarship while Oong won the individual champion and walked away with a RM10,000 DISTED Scholarship. These scholarships may be utilised for any of programmes in any course enrolled at DISTED.

“DISTED is also the proud provider of the Cambridge A-level and South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) in which Science is one of the key subject in both programmes,” said Dr Loo Ai Yin, DISTED Head of School Pre-University.
