The Chinese New Year was celebrated on 25 January 2020 which marked the beginning of the lunar calendar. The Year of The Rat in Chinese zodiac is associated with wealth and abundance DISTED welcomed the year of “wealth” and “abundance” which started off with its annual CNY luncheon on 12 February.
The Acting-President and CEO of DISTED, Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Chin Fook Weng and Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, Chairman of Board of Governance of Wawasan Open University (WOU) and Vice Chancellor of WOU Prof. Dr. Lily Chan were among the invited guests whose graced the event.
To garner the “wealth”, many staff came in red, an auspicious colour which added to the “Ong” to boost the wealth element. As a customary, the luncheon kicked off with the tossing of the Yee Sang. The belief was when you mixed all the ingredients and sauces together and tosed them into the air, (the higher you toss your Yee Sang) the greater your fortune would be.
To celebrate the “abundance”, attendees had the opportunity to sample an array of scrumptious Chinese dishes such as Char Kuey Teow, Stir-Fried Kai Lan and assorted traditional cookies. In addition to the “abundance” of delectable food, the college also organised some fun and interesting game sessions which included Yee Sang Video Challenge and Kahoot Challenge.
The Best Yee Sang Video Challenge went to Team Nurul Nadia from School of Business and Hospitality. The winners for Kahoot Challenge was Khairu Nisa from School of Computing and Engineering, the second and third place went to Dr Khor Wei Ying from School of Pre-U and Ms Annie Lim from Quality and Policy Management. Luqman from School of Computing and Engineering and Marian Leow from Registry won 4th and 5th place.
