The 2nd Annual Mathematical Olympiad was well received with 13 schools confirming their participation. The event is supported by DISTED’s academic partners, Toyohashi University of Technology (TUT) Japan, and the Malaysian Association of Science and Technology Innovation (ASTI).
In attendance was Dr Jerry Koay, DISTED’s Director of Academic Affairs. The event was also graced by external judges namely Dr Mohamed Yunus Mohamed Yasin, President of ASTI, Associate Professor Dr Pang Boey LIM, Director of Global Education, TUT-Penang, and Professor Takaaki Takashima, Director of Institute for Global Network Innovation in Technology Education (IGNITE).
A total of 55 students competed for the individual championship while 17 teams consisting of 4 in a team competed for the group championship.
The winner of the individual category will be awarded with RM10,000 worth of DISTED scholarship; while the team category winner will be awarded with a RM20,000 DISTED scholarship. These scholarships may be utilised to enrol into any of the programmes offered by DISTED.
Congratulations to Wong Jer Ren from SMJK Chung Ling Butterworth who emerged as the individual championship while Team SMJK Chung Ling crowned as team championship.
