Innovation Day at Google: Shaping the Future of Education
DISTED College representatives recently participated in the Google x GSA Innovation Day held at the Google Kuala Lumpur office in Axiata Tower. The engagement formed part of DISTED College’s ongoing collaboration with Google through Google Workspace for Education and served as an immersive introduction to Gemini for Education and the latest AI-driven innovations transforming higher education.
The day began with an introduction to Gemini for Education, highlighting its potential to streamline academic workflows, enhance teaching delivery and improve student engagement. Participants were also introduced to NotebookLM, a tool that supports research by grounding AI outputs in curated academic sources, enabling deeper analysis and understanding.
Key sessions focused on “Innovation in Practice” and “The Modern Classroom,” offering practical strategies for embedding AI technologies into existing curricula. Discussions also emphasised the importance of mastering safety and responsible AI use in an increasingly digital educational environment.
The experience concluded with a guided tour of the Google office, offering insights into a collaborative and technology‑driven workplace that supports global innovation. This exposure provided a clearer understanding of how AI tools are strategically applied in real‑world settings.
Overall, the session was an enriching professional learning experience that reinforced DISTED College’s commitment to digital readiness. The knowledge gained will support ongoing efforts to enhance teaching practices and prepare students for a future shaped by AI and technological advancement.

Production House Visit – Atlantic by Motion in Style
The study visit to Atlantic by Motion In Style provided students with a valuable opportunity to gain deeper insight into the professional production industry. By observing real‑world practices, students were able to develop a clearer understanding of how production work is executed beyond the classroom environment.
Throughout the visit, students were introduced to various aspects of media production, including wedding videography and commercial video creation. They explored the full production workflow, from initial concept planning and pre‑production to filming and technical execution. This exposure allowed students to better understand industry standards, expectations and the level of precision required in professional media production.
An important feature of the visit was the opportunity for practical engagement. Students were given the chance to interact with professional equipment and tools, enhancing their technical knowledge and hands‑on skills. This direct experience reinforced theoretical concepts learned in class and provided a more holistic understanding of production work.
Overall, the visit to Atlantic by Motion In Style was an enriching educational experience. It highlighted the importance of both technical skill and creative thinking in media production, while motivating students to continue refining their abilities in preparation for future careers in the industry.

Command, Collaborate, Complete!
As part of the orientation programme for the latest student intake, the School of Computing and Engineering (SCE) and the School of Communication, Arts and Multimedia (SCM) organised an engaging Human‑Robot activity designed to promote teamwork, communication and problem‑solving skills. The participants included students from Diploma, Foundation, SACE and A‑Level programmes, who experienced the activity within a dynamic treasure hunt setting.
In this interactive activity, students worked in groups where one member acted as a “robot” and was blindfolded, while the others took on the role of “programmers.” The robot could only move by following clear, logical, step‑by‑step instructions provided by the team. Participants guided their robot through a series of challenges, including cone mazes, balance paths, cup‑stacking tasks and hula‑hoop tunnels, requiring precision, coordination and effective communication.
The Human‑Robot activity offered multiple learning benefits. It strengthened logical thinking and problem‑solving skills by mirroring fundamental programming concepts, where precise instructions are essential. It also enhanced communication, as unclear directions could lead to errors and require teams to reset and refine their approach. In addition, the activity encouraged teamwork, leadership and confidence, fostering collaboration in a supportive and enjoyable environment.
Overall, the activity successfully combined experiential learning with engagement, helping new students ease into campus life while developing essential cognitive and interpersonal skills. It served as a meaningful introduction to the collaborative learning culture at DISTED College.

The Power of Perception: Why Marketing Is Your Secret Weapon
In today’s hyper‑connected world, marketing is far more than selling products or producing creative advertisements. It is the strategic engine that drives value creation, builds trust and addresses human needs. At DISTED College, mastering marketing principles is not just relevant for business students—it is an essential skill for students across all disciplines.
Marketing provides valuable insight into human behaviour. By studying frameworks such as the Marketing Mix (7Ps) and the STP Model (Segmentation, Targeting and Positioning), students learn how to identify wants, needs and demands, and how to design solutions that resonate with specific audiences. Whether a student is pursuing computer science, hospitality, psychology or the creative fields, they are ultimately learning how to position and communicate their own value in the future workplace.
Understanding marketing also develops strategic thinking, resilience and adaptability. It equips students to navigate competitive environments—such as Penang’s vibrant food and beverage industry—and to articulate their value proposition clearly and professionally. In a crowded job market, the ability to effectively “brand” oneself can make the difference between being overlooked and being hired.
At DISTED, marketing education emphasises real‑world application, from international marketing to experiential marketing. These learning experiences prepare students to be analytical, adaptable, and future‑ready. Marketing is not simply about products on shelves—it is about the value created, and the legacy one chooses to build.
