Remarks from the President
Dear DISTED Community
Classes commenced in earnest this week for our Foundation and Diploma students, marking an energetic start to the new academic period. Meanwhile, our A Level students began their trial examinations in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Throughout the sessions, DISTED students demonstrated strong technical competence and confidence in handling scientific equipment and laboratory chemicals, reflecting their rigorous preparation and training.
We also came together as a community to celebrate our traditional Staff Raya Open House, a cherished occasion that fostered warmth, unity, and cultural appreciation. The celebration provided a wonderful opportunity to welcome our new staff members and introduce them to the vibrant DISTED culture.

OFM 2026 Training Camp: Nurturing Malaysia’s Future Physics Talents
DISTED College had the honour of hosting the Malaysian Physics Olympiad (OFM) 2026 Training Camp from 2 to 6 March 2026, a six-day residential programme designed to nurture high-performing students in physics and prepare them for international competitions. The camp brought together 43 selected students and nine experienced trainers and facilitators, with the primary aim of identifying potential representatives for the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) 2026 in Colombia and the International Secondary School Physics Olympiad (ISPhO) 2026 in Russia.
Participants were divided into Senior (Group A) and Junior (Group B) cohorts, each receiving a carefully structured curriculum aligned with their academic level. Senior participants engaged in advanced theoretical discussions and olympiad-standard experiments, including investigations using the Helmholtz resonator. Junior participants focused on consolidating core physics knowledge through topics such as DC circuits, mechanics, and wave phenomena, complemented by practical laboratory sessions.
The intensive training programme included written assessments, simulation-based experiments, collaborative laboratory work, and a joint experimental session on the Potentiometer experiment. Evenings were dedicated to guided self-study, allowing students to deepen their understanding under facilitator supervision.
The camp concluded with a closing ceremony led by Dr Tan Fuyi, Senior Lecturer from the School of Pre-University Studies, who inspired participants to continue pursuing excellence in physics regardless of selection outcomes. DISTED College extends its sincere appreciation to all trainers, facilitators, and participants for contributing to the success of the OFM 2026 Training Camp and advancing Malaysia’s presence on the international physics stage.

Where History Meets Marketing: Students Explore the Legacy of P. Ramlee
A group of Diploma in Business Studies students took part in an experiential field trip that blended cultural appreciation with practical marketing learning at the childhood home of Tan Sri P. Ramlee. Widely regarded as one of Malaysia’s most influential cultural icons, P. Ramlee’s legacy remains deeply significant, particularly among older generations. This visit offered students an opportunity to rediscover his impact through a contemporary and educational lens.
Born in Penang, P. Ramlee was a renowned actor, filmmaker, musician, and composer whose influence extended far beyond his hometown. His childhood home at Jalan P. Ramlee, George Town stands as an important cultural landmark, yet remains relatively under-visited despite its historical value.
The field trip was designed with two key objectives: to familiarise students with an important national figure and to expose them to the concept of experiential marketing. Students were challenged to develop practical marketing strategies aimed at transforming the site into a more engaging and prominent cultural destination—one that attracts visitors while preserving its authenticity and heritage.
During the visit, students explored an exhibition area showcasing film clips, personal artefacts, and performance costumes, followed by a tour of the traditional Malay house that shaped P. Ramlee’s early life. A highlight of the experience was an insightful sharing session with Encik Abdul Malik from Arkib Negara Malaysia, who shared stories that deepened students’ understanding of the artist’s life and era.
More than a history lesson, the field trip encouraged students to connect marketing theory with real-world application, demonstrating how creative strategies can play a meaningful role in preserving and promoting Malaysia’s cultural heritage.
