Remarks from the President

Dear DISTED Community,

This week has been a memorable one as we came together to celebrate the Prom Night and Appreciation Dinner. These events were a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge the hard work and achievements of our students and staff throughout the year. At the same time, we also said farewell to some of our colleagues, marking the end of important chapters and wishing them success in their future endeavours.

Among this year’s proud moments was the recognition of Ms. Sameera Muhammed Salim, who earned the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Award in Malaysia for High Achievement in English General Paper. Her success, significantly bolstered by the dedicated academic guidance and encouragement of her lecturer, Ms. Vilashini Kandaiah, reflects the profound dedication of both our students and lecturers. We also celebrated excellence at the Scholarship and Honours Night, which acknowledged both our high-achieving students and the generosity of scholarship sponsors whose support helps learners pursue their academic goals.

As 2026 approaches, I would like to inform you that the College will be observing the year-end break in the coming week, with classes resuming in January 2026.

Reflecting on another eventful year, I am deeply grateful for the tremendous efforts of all my colleagues who have contributed to making this year a success.

My heartfelt congratulations to our SACE students for their commendable results. All candidates successfully obtained an ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank), reflecting their dedication and perseverance throughout the year. The highest ATAR score was an impressive 90.90, achieved by Tan Yi Qian. Alongside Tan Yi Qian, other top scorers included Lau Zhe Kuan, who scored 88.00 and was awarded the High Subject Achievement Award for Malaysia in Business Innovation. We also congratulate Aaden Por with an ATAR of 86.90, Audrey Ung Hui Xuan with 86.85, Chan Seng Kuan with 85.20, Lean Kai Jie with 82.70, and Rasvini Subramaniam with 81.90.

We are immensely proud of these accomplishments and the hard work shown by all our students. I would also like to extend special thanks to our lecturer, Ms. Elaine Chan, whose dedication and guidance have played a vital role in supporting our students to achieve their best.

These remarkable achievements demonstrate the commitment and perseverance of both students and staff, and we look forward to building this success in the year ahead. Going forward into the new year, we will continue to focus on plans that drive sustainable growth, maintain relevance in an ever-changing landscape, and uphold excellence in teaching and learning. Together, we aim to create an environment that empowers students and staff to thrive and innovate.

As this is our final issue for 2025, we thank everyone for their support throughout the year. Goodbye for now and see you all in 2026! Until then, enjoy the festive season, cherish the time with your loved ones, and have a joyful holiday break.

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

President,

Dato Dr(h.c.) Lim Si Boon

Celebrating Our People, Honouring Our Journey

On 16 December 2025, DISTED College hosted its Appreciation Night at Tamarra, a renowned beachside restaurant in George Town. The event was a meaningful tribute to the dedication, professionalism, and commitment of the college’s academic and administrative staff, whose efforts continue to drive the institution’s success.

The evening marked a significant milestone for DISTED College, as it was the first physical gathering held since the COVID-19 pandemic. Bringing together both full-time and sessional lecturers, the event provided a long-awaited opportunity for colleagues to reconnect, strengthen relationships, and celebrate together in person. Designed as an opportunity to step away from daily responsibilities, the evening allowed staff to relax, socialise, and recharge in preparation for the year ahead.

Adding a poignant moment to the celebration, the college also bid farewell to four esteemed colleagues: Ms Seethai, Ms Indra, Ms Khairu Nisa, and Mr Krishnan. Their dedication and service were honoured through warm tributes, recognising the lasting impact they have made on students, colleagues, and the wider DISTED community.

In his address, the College President commended the resilience and perseverance demonstrated by staff, particularly during challenging times. He also reaffirmed DISTED’s core values of Integrity, Inclusiveness, Excellence, Collaboration, Caring, and Sustainability, emphasising their importance in shaping the college’s continued growth and future direction.

A Heartfelt Farewell to My Second Home, DISTED

On 16th December 2025, I experienced one of the most emotional and meaningful evenings of my life at the Appreciation Dinner held at Tamara by Irama Dining. It was a beautiful evening filled with warmth, laughter, delicious food, and heartfelt conversations. What made it even more special was being personally appreciated by our President, Dato’ Lim Si Boon, a moment I will forever treasure.

After 26 years of service, having joined DISTED in 1999, I have made the difficult decision to resign as I move into a new chapter of my life to fully concentrate on training and professional development. This decision was not an easy one. Leaving DISTED feels like leaving a part of myself behind, because DISTED has never been “just a workplace” to me, it has truly been my second home.

Over the years, DISTED has shaped me into who I am today. I have learned so much, not only professionally, but personally. The institution gave me opportunities to grow, to lead, to learn continuously, and to serve students with purpose. I have built lifelong friendships with wonderful colleagues who made every challenge manageable and every success meaningful. The memories created here, meetings, classrooms, events, laughter, struggles, and achievements, will always stay close to my heart.

DISTED is a wonderful place to work in, filled with dedicated people who care deeply about education and students. I am grateful for the trust, support, and encouragement I received throughout my journey.

DISTED is a remarkable place to work, filled with individuals who care deeply about education and the well-being of students. I am sincerely grateful for the trust, guidance, support, and encouragement I have received throughout my years of service. I am confident that my colleagues will continue to rise to the occasion and ensure our programmes remain relevant and impactful in these changing times.

Although I am leaving my role, my support for DISTED will always remain. DISTED will forever be a place close to my heart, and I will always be proud to say that I was part of the DISTED family.

Thank you, DISTED, for 26 unforgettable years.

Such gatherings play an important role in strengthening collegial bonds and fostering a sense of unity across the institution. The evening allowed staff to reconnect, reflect on the year’s successes, and reaffirm our shared commitment to excellence in education and service to students.

In the same spirit of gratitude, the School of Pre-University Studies would also like to express its deepest thanks to Mr Krishnan Allagan, whose service contract concludes on 31 December 2025. Mr Krishnan has been a dedicated and invaluable member of DISTED College since 1995, playing a pivotal role in the management, maintenance, and safety of the science laboratories.

The evening provided a valuable opportunity to celebrate shared accomplishments while acknowledging the dedication and collective efforts of the DISTED community throughout 2025.

While the dinner was a celebration of success, it also carried moments of reflection and farewell. Several colleagues will be leaving DISTED to pursue new professional endeavours. For the School of Communication, Arts and Multimedia, the occasion was particularly poignant as we bid farewell to Ms Khairu Nisa, whose contributions and commitment have left a lasting impact. Alongside the sense of sadness in parting, there was also a strong sense of pride and fulfilment in having achieved our 2025 targets together. The evening further marked a temporary farewell to colleagues who will be taking well-deserved extended breaks following months of dedication and hard work.
