Graduate with an Edge: Chartered Accountant (Singapore) Pathway

We are pleased to share that students of the Bachelor in Accounting (Honours) programme at DISTED College, offered in collaboration with HELP University, are now eligible to receive maximum exemptions from the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA). Students enrolled in this programme have a unique opportunity to fast-track their professional journey through the Singapore Chartered Accountant Qualification (SCAQ).

Graduates may receive up to 5 module exemptions* in the SCAQ Foundation Programme, administered by ISCA. This pathway leads directly into the SCAQ Professional Programme, culminating in the prestigious Chartered Accountant (Singapore) designation. Through this pathway, students gain global recognition and career mobility with the CA (Singapore) designation — a mark of professional excellence recognised across ASEAN and internationally.

The qualification enhances employability, strengthens professional credibility, and opens doors to regional and international career opportunities. ISCA collaborates with over 1,000 Accredited Training Organisations (ATOs) and corporate partners across ASEAN, providing students with real-world exposure, internship opportunities, and employment prospects. The programme is supported by industry experts and qualified professionals, ensuring students acquire practical, globally relevant accounting competencies.

NVIVO Workshop: Enhancing Research Skills

On Friday, 26 September, the School of Communication, Arts and Multimedia at DISTED College organized an NVIVO workshop for staff and students. The session was conducted by Dr. S. Maartandan Suppiah, Senior Lecturer and Programme Manager of MSc Managerial Communication at the School of Multimedia Technology and Communication, Universiti Utara Malaysia.

Dr. Maartandan offered clear and practical guidance on using NVIVO 15 to analyse qualitative data such as interview transcripts, speeches, and videos. The workshop proved highly beneficial for staff involved in academic research, including journal articles and PhD studies. For students, it complemented research methodology courses, which are a core component of most degree programs at DISTED College.

The workshop was attended by degree students from the Media Studies and Psychology programs. Many participants shared that the session addressed their current academic and research needs.

Recognising the value of this tool, DISTED College has acquired NVIVO software for educational use on campus. This ensures that staff and students have access to advanced resources for qualitative research.

The Evolution of LK Fresh Farming – Eggs, Innovation, and Heart

On a recent visit to my hometown, Kampar, Perak, I had the pleasure of exploring 1000 Telur Café, a farm-to-table concept by Mr. Tan Leng Yee, a third-generation farmer and founder of LK Fresh Farming.

The family business began humbly over sixty years ago with chicken farming focused on egg production. Today, it has grown to include closed-door and free-range chicken farming, aquaponics, fish farming, and a café that brings fresh produce directly from the farm to the table.

I toured one of the closed-door chicken farms, where chickens are kept in a fully air-conditioned facility with automated egg-harvesting and background music. Mr. Tan’s commitment to humane farming has earned LK Fresh Farming recognition as Malaysia’s first certified humane-raised and handled chicken farm.

The aquaponics system integrates aquaculture and hydroponics in a sustainable cycle. Fish waste nourishes the plants, and the plants help purify the water for the fish.

The café is filled with creative touches, repurposed décor, and even a lobster swimming in a clay water container in the toilet.

As a Senior Lecturer at DISTED College, I found the visit deeply inspiring. It reflects the kind of entrepreneurial spirit and innovation we encourage in our students. If you’re ever in Kampar, make time to visit 1000 Telur Café.

Generative AI in Education Talk

DISTED College recently hosted a guest speaker session titled Generative AI in Education, delivered by Dr Noor Fareen Abdul Rahim from Universiti Sains Malaysia. Held at R300F, the session welcomed around 50 to 60 students from SACE, Diploma, Foundation, and Degree programmes.

Dr Noor Fareen is a Senior Lecturer at the Graduate School of Business and the Research Cluster Head for Global Strategy and Organisational Behaviour. Her academic and industry experience brought depth to the session, which introduced students to the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence, including machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing.

She discussed the growing role of AI in higher education, where institutions are using it for personalised learning platforms, plagiarism detection, research assistance, and administrative efficiency. Examples of AI tools such as ChatGPT and image generation software were shared to illustrate their relevance in students’ academic lives.

The talk also explored future trends and opportunities in AI, encouraging students to build digital literacy and adopt ethical practices when using AI tools.

Organised by the School of Communication, Arts and Multimedia, the session aligns with DISTED College’s mission to equip students with future-ready skills and knowledge.

A Visit to the Penang Fo Yi Haemodialysis Society

Kelab Penyayang members from DISTED College recently embarked on a meaningful visit to the Penang Fo Yi Haemodialysis Society, stepping beyond their usual campus activities to engage with a cause that truly matters.

During the visit, Kelab Penyayang advisor Ms Lee presented a contribution of RM2,050 to the centre. This amount was successfully raised through the Mooncake Festival Fundraising Project 2025, thanks to the generous support of the DISTED College community.

While the donation may seem modest in comparison to the centre’s operational costs, it symbolises the club’s dedication to social responsibility and community engagement. The visit also served as a valuable learning experience, helping members understand the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and monitoring sugar intake to prevent chronic illnesses such as kidney disease.

DISTED College deeply appreciates the work of non-profit organisations like the Penang Fo Yi Haemodialysis Society, which provide essential support to individuals in need. Initiatives like this reflect the college’s commitment to nurturing compassionate, socially aware students.
