Programme Overview

The CIE is a 18-month programme where students gain direct entry into the diploma courses offered at DISTED upon completion. It is specifically aimed for students who have failed to obtain the necessary grades needed to enroll into a diploma/foundation course. It is also designed for students who aim to improve their English language proficiency and develop the skills needed to take entrance examinations such as IELTS/PTE/TOEFL. This course is targeted to develop learner’s basic language skills for educational, vocational and social purposes. At the end of the course, students will show progress in their ability to express their views and opinions clearly and confidently. Students can also opt for this programme to equip themselves with skills for progression into higher education. This course is also ideal for tourists who are looking to practice their English in a conducive learning environment during their stay in Malaysia or employees who want to develop their English proficiency according to their budget and lifestyle.

Programme Structure & Courses

ELEMENTARY

Enhancing students’ English proficiency for social communication at interpersonal level.
Focusing on reading , listening, speaking and writing skills with the understanding various grammar structures.
At every level, lessons are designed using multiple intelligence concept where activities are incorporated to increase student engagement.

INTERMEDIATE

At this level, students are exposed to academic content of reading, writing, listening and speaking in preparation for tertiary education.
A strong foundation is provided for a structured learning environment , using well-supported and advanced teaching and learning resources.
At this level, students are gradually exposed to skills needed for English proficiency tests such as IELTS/PTE/TOEFL so that they become familiar with the format.

ADVANCED

Students are able to demonstrate the ability to think critically, analytically and creatively in solving problems in making decisions at the tertiary level
They also develop the knowledge and studying habits, appropriate to a college/university environment.
At this level, students should have reached a proficiency level of IELTS higher than Band 5.5 and/or able to perform tasks at CEF B2 level.

Main Subjects

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

SPM: 1 Credit(min grade C) and “Layak Mendapat Sijil” seen in the results slip.
O Level/IGCSE: 1 Credit(min grade C) with obtaining eligibility for a certificate from the examination body.
