In a remarkable demonstration of initiative and community engagement, the newly established Self Defense Club at DISTED has successfully conducted a fundraising event, surpassing all expectations. Their strategic approach involved selling homemade brownies to a local business in Penang, which resulted in an impressive profit margin. This entrepreneurial venture was carefully timed to coincide with the Halloween Festival, adding a festive touch to their efforts. The club members, showing great dedication, prepared and sold 207 brownies, a testament to their commitment and hard work.

The funds raised from this event are earmarked for a significant cause: enhancing the club’s self-defense training resources. The club plans to invest in essential training equipment such as sparring gears, body protectors, landing mats, head gears, kicking targets, and shields. These additions will significantly benefit the students of DISTED, offering them the opportunity to learn and practice various self-defense techniques under their instructor and club president, Tan Khai Hin. Tan, a current student in the Foundation in Science Programme, brings his expertise and leadership to the forefront, fostering a safe and empowering learning environment for all members.

This achievement reflects not only the club’s innovative spirit but also its dedication to creating a safe and equipped space for students to learn vital self-defence skills. The Self Defense Club’s initiative is a shining example of how student-led activities can make a substantial impact on campus life and beyond.
