Saturday, 28 October 2023, Penang – DISTED College, Penang’s premier institution of higher education, celebrated its 36th Anniversary and the 31st Convocation Ceremony with a memorable event at the prestigious Wawasan Open University. The ceremony marked a significant milestone in the college’s history.

In his address, Professor Dr. Vikneswaran Nair, DISTED College President, celebrated the graduates, stating, “Today is a day of immense joy and celebration as we honour the exceptional graduates.” He reaffirmed the college’s commitment to upholding its founder, Yeap Chor Ee’s traditions and providing transformative educational experiences.

Professor Dr. Nair emphasised the strategic vision of the Management, highlighting their dedication to maintaining DISTED’s esteemed reputation, robust scholarship and bursary programmes, and the introduction of new Bachelor Degree programs in partnership with HELP University. He also shared the college’s strengthened national and international partnerships with institutions such as RMIT University, the University of Adelaide, Heriot-Watt University, and more, as well as industry collaborations with leading companies like PwC, DELL, Keysight Technologies, and Intel.

The inauguration of the CoL2abz, an immersive learning hub designed to support Multimedia, Computer Science, Psychology, and Business programmes, was a significant highlight. This initiative positions DISTED College at the forefront of embracing the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0) challenges and harnessing the transformative power of artificial intelligence (AI) in education.

Professor Dr. Nair proudly detailed the exceptional achievements of the Class of 2023, with 25 per cent of Degree students attaining First Class honours. The college’s dedication to academic excellence was further showcased by its outstanding performance in DISTED Pre-University studies, as well as its collaboration with SACE International, which recently introduced new subjects like Visual Arts, Creative Arts, and Business Innovations.

He summed up DISTED College’s commitment to excellence was recognised with the highest level of “Competitive” rating under the Ministry of Higher Education’s Malaysian Quality Evaluation System for Private Colleges (MyQUEST) for 2022.

In his address, the Honourable Tan Sri Koh Tsu Khoon, Chairman of Wawasan Education Foundation, and distinguished guest of honou, expressed his joy and privilege in celebrating the graduates’ achievements. He conveyed his gratitude to the management of DISTED College, and emphasised the importance of education as a gateway to endless possibilities. Drawing from personal experience, he encouraged the graduates to embrace change, pursue lifelong learning, and stay connected as alumni, contributing to the institution’s growth.

Among the notable graduates, Ms. Ong Hui Chin, who graduated with First Class Honours in the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Accounting and Finance programme in collaboration with Staffordshire University, UK, stood out as the Valedictorian. Ms. Chin, in her speech, shared her journey and expressed her gratitude for the knowledge and skills acquired during her time at DISTED College.

Several other graduates were also recognised with awards, such as the Chairman’s Trophy, won by Cheong Yok Yee from Bachelor of Psychology (Hons), and the President’s Trophy, which saw three recipients – Tan Li Yan, Nur Maslina Sidek Binti Azman Shah, and Goh Shien Hoon, all from the Diploma in Business Studies, taking the award.
