Wednesday, 26 June 2023, Kuala Lumpur – DISTED College, a leading educational institution in Penang, proudly stood in the spotlight at the illustrious Mandarin Oriental Hotel during the prestigious Sustainability and CSR Malaysia Awards 2023. The highly anticipated event, supported by the Ministry of Women, Family, and Community Development and the Ministry of Rural Development Malaysia, recognised outstanding institutions and corporations making significant contributions to Malaysia’s socioeconomic transformation.
Amidst a gathering of distinguished guests and industry leaders, DISTED College emerged as a shining star, receiving not one, but two esteemed awards, solidifying its position as a trailblazer in education. The College’s commitment to sustainability and social responsibility was recognised at both individual and organisational levels.
The highlight of the evening was the prestigious Personality of the Year – CSR and Sustainability Leadership Award 2023, presented to the President of DISTED College, Professor Dr Vikneswaran Nair. Renowned for his remarkable track record in championing sustainability and community-based tourism, Professor Dr Nair’s exemplary leadership has inspired positive change in Malaysia’s educational landscape over the years.
In addition to the Personality of the Year award, DISTED College was also honored with the College of the Year, Best in B40 Education Support Award. This accolade acknowledges the College’s unwavering commitment to creating equal opportunities for all students, including those from underprivileged backgrounds. DISTED College’s various schools, including the School of Business and Hospitality, School of Pre-University Studies, School of Computing and Engineering, and School of Psychology, collectively contributed RM16,786.00 to numerous CSR initiatives in Penang throughout 2022, leaving a lasting impact on local communities. Moreover, DISTED College demonstrated its dedication to empowering aspiring scholars by contributing RM751,358.60 in scholarships and bursary awards for students across all segments, including the B40 and M40 categories.
The awards were presented by the esteemed Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development, YB Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy Binti Haji Shukri, further adding to the occasion’s significance.
