Dear DISTED community,<\/p>

Our learning continues at a very hectic pace, and student activities are progressing well. In fact, our student, Delwina, has just completed a very successful showing at the National Juniors 2026 Judo Competition, winning two gold medals, and also represented Malaysia at the SEA Judo Championships in Vietnam.<\/p>

There will be a long break for both staff and students this weekend in conjunction with Hari Raya Haji, followed by Wesak Day and His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong\u2019s Birthday the following week. I wish everyone a restful break and look forward to seeing everyone return in June.<\/p>

My achievement in the SACE International\u00a0programme\u00a0was not an individual accomplishment, but one shaped by the support,\u00a0guidance\u00a0and encouragement of the people around me at DISTED. I was fortunate to learn alongside dedicated lecturers and supportive friends who played a significant role in my journey.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

I recall the consistent practice of past year papers in my Accounting and Mathematics classes, which helped strengthen my understanding and exam readiness. My English and Psychology lessons were filled with\u00a0in<\/span>\u2011depth,\u00a0real<\/span>\u2011world\u00a0discussions and thoughtful guidance from lecturers. At the same time, some of my most memorable moments were in the Art room, where creative sessions added\u00a0colour\u00a0and balance to demanding study days. Each lesson contributed not only to my academic performance but also to my personal growth.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The quiet and focused learning environment at DISTED supported my ability to concentrate and fully engage with the syllabus. Equally important was the presence of my classmates, whose energy and encouragement helped build my resilience during stressful periods. We supported one another through assignments,\u00a0tests\u00a0and examinations, creating\u00a0a strong sense\u00a0of community.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

I am deeply grateful for the support from both lecturers and friends throughout the year. This journey has been a truly meaningful and\u00a0life<\/span>\u2011changing\u00a0experience, and one that I will carry with me into the future.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

From Code to Control: Inspiring STEM Learning Through a Python\u2011Powered Robotic Arm <\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

DISTED College participated in the STEM Fest\u00a0organised\u00a0by Tenby International School, providing an engaging platform to promote student interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The event also strengthened collaboration and knowledge sharing between both institutions.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

As part of the\u00a0programme, the School of Computing and Engineering presented a demonstration of a robotic arm project programmed using Python\u2014a versatile programming language widely used in artificial intelligence,\u00a0automation\u00a0and robotics. The showcase highlighted how programming concepts can be translated into\u00a0real<\/span>\u2011world\u00a0applications.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

During the demonstration, the robotic arm was used to pick up objects and place them at designated locations. Its movements were controlled through\u00a0coordinate<\/span>\u2011based\u00a0programming, allowing students to\u00a0visualise\u00a0how logical instructions translate into precise mechanical actions.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The session also included a\u00a0hands<\/span>\u2011on\u00a0component, where participating students were given the opportunity to\u00a0modify\u00a0simple looping instructions and experiment with different objects. Through this, they\u00a0observed\u00a0how changes in code directly influenced the\u00a0behaviour\u00a0and performance of the robotic arm.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The showcase generated strong interest and engagement, with students asking insightful questions about robotics, Python\u00a0programming\u00a0and future applications of such technologies.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Overall, the\u00a0programme\u00a0served as a valuable opportunity for DISTED College to\u00a0demonstrate\u00a0innovation in computing education, promote STEM\u00a0learning\u00a0and inspire younger students to explore future pathways in technology and engineering.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The Student Representative Council (SRC) 2026\/27 recently held its first management meeting with the College\u2019s senior management, marking\u00a0an important step\u00a0in strengthening communication and collaboration between students and the institution.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The session began with an SRC presentation outlining their vision and aspirations for the year, alongside updates on ongoing initiatives. The SRC also presented detailed student feedback,\u00a0providing\u00a0valuable insights into student experiences,\u00a0concerns\u00a0and suggestions for improvement across the campus.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Senior management responded by highlighting improvements made based on\u00a0previous\u00a0feedback, particularly in areas of infrastructure and student experience. These include the replacement of canteen furniture, the introduction of a subsidised Coffee Bot machine, and other enhancements aligned with student needs.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Looking forward, the SRC has introduced this year\u2019s theme,\u00a0<\/span>\u201cEngage and Interact,\u201d<\/span><\/i>\u00a0with a focus on creating inclusive, flexible and\u00a0student<\/span>\u2011driven\u00a0activities. Planned events include an Open Mic platform to\u00a0showcase\u00a0student talent, the\u00a0much<\/span>\u2011anticipated\u00a0DISTED Got Talent 2.0, and a Town Hall session aimed at fostering transparent dialogue between students,\u00a0faculty\u00a0and management. The year is expected to conclude with a celebratory event inspired by last year\u2019s Yule Ball Prom Night, with a greater focus on accessibility and comfort.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The meeting underscored that meaningful improvement is a shared responsibility between students and management. The SRC expressed appreciation for ongoing student engagement and the management\u2019s commitment to continuous enhancement of the campus experience.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

While the conflict between Iran and Israel may appear distant, global developments often have meaningful implications for students in Malaysia, including those at DISTED College.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

One key impact is the rising cost of living. Conflicts in the Middle East can influence global oil prices, which in turn affect fuel costs, transportation expenses and the price of goods. Students may experience these changes through higher food prices, increased commuting costs and everyday spending.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Global instability can also create economic uncertainty. For final<\/span>\u2011year students and fresh graduates, this may result in fewer job opportunities as companies become more cautious in hiring during uncertain periods. As a result, competition in the job market may become more intense.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Beyond economic effects, staying informed about global issues helps students develop broader perspectives. Understanding international events strengthens critical thinking and prepares students for careers in various fields, including business, media, education and international relations.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Ultimately, this situation highlights how interconnected the world has become. DISTED College is pleased to welcome\u00a0Ms\u00a0Sopna\u00a0as our new Laboratory Technologist Executive.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Ms\u00a0Sopna\u00a0brings with\u00a0her a strong academic and professional background. She holds a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology from SEGi College Kuala Lumpur, where she graduated with a CGPA of 3.80 and was\u00a0recognised\u00a0with both the High Achiever Award and the Dean\u2019s List Graduation Award. She also earned a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Occupational Safety and Health Management from Open University Malaysia.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

With eight years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist at AIMST University,\u00a0Ms\u00a0Sopna\u00a0has developed extensive\u00a0expertise\u00a0in laboratory operations, quality\u00a0control\u00a0and safety compliance. Her experience and knowledge will play\u00a0an important role\u00a0in supporting the College\u2019s practical teaching and learning environment.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>
