Dear DISTED Community\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Classes\u00a0commenced\u00a0in earnest this week for our Foundation and Diploma students, marking an energetic start to the new academic period. Meanwhile, our A Level students began their trial examinations in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Throughout the sessions, DISTED students\u00a0demonstrated\u00a0strong technical competence and confidence in handling scientific equipment and laboratory chemicals, reflecting their rigorous preparation and training.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

We also came together as a community to celebrate our traditional Staff Raya Open House, a cherished occasion that fostered warmth, unity, and cultural appreciation. DISTED College had the honour of hosting the\u00a0Malaysian Physics Olympiad (OFM) 2026 Training Camp\u00a0from\u00a02 to 6 March 2026, a six-day residential programme designed to nurture high-performing students in physics and prepare them for international competitions. The camp brought together\u00a043 selected students\u00a0and\u00a0nine experienced trainers and facilitators, with the primary aim of\u00a0identifying\u00a0potential representatives for the\u00a0International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) 2026\u00a0in Colombia and the\u00a0International Secondary School Physics Olympiad (ISPhO) 2026\u00a0in Russia.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Participants were divided into\u00a0Senior (Group A)\u00a0and\u00a0Junior (Group B)\u00a0cohorts, each receiving a carefully structured curriculum aligned with their academic level. Senior participants engaged in advanced theoretical discussions and\u00a0olympiad-standard experiments, including investigations using the\u00a0Helmholtz resonator. Junior participants focused on consolidating core physics knowledge through topics such as\u00a0DC circuits, mechanics, and wave phenomena, complemented by practical laboratory sessions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The intensive training programme included written assessments, simulation-based experiments, collaborative laboratory work, and a joint experimental session on the\u00a0Potentiometer experiment. Evenings were dedicated to guided self-study, allowing students to deepen their understanding under facilitator supervision.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The camp concluded with a closing ceremony led by\u00a0Dr Tan\u00a0Fuyi, Senior Lecturer from the School of Pre-University Studies, who inspired participants to continue pursuing excellence in physics regardless of selection outcomes. DISTED College extends its sincere appreciation to all trainers, facilitators, and participants for contributing to the success of the OFM 2026 Training Camp and advancing Malaysia\u2019s presence on the international physics stage.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

A group of Diploma in Business Studies students took part in an experiential field trip that blended cultural appreciation with practical marketing learning at the childhood home of\u00a0Tan Sri P. Ramlee. Widely regarded as one of Malaysia\u2019s most influential cultural icons, P. Ramlee\u2019s legacy\u00a0remains\u00a0deeply significant, particularly among older generations. This visit offered students an opportunity to rediscover\u00a0his\u00a0impact through a contemporary and educational lens.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Born in Penang, P. Ramlee was a renowned actor, filmmaker, musician, and composer whose influence extended far beyond his hometown. His childhood home at\u00a0Jalan P. Ramlee, George Town\u00a0stands as an important cultural\u00a0landmark, yet\u00a0remains\u00a0relatively under-visited\u00a0despite its historical value.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The field trip was designed with two key\u00a0objectives: to\u00a0familiarise\u00a0students with an important national figure and to expose them to the concept of\u00a0experiential marketing. Students were challenged to develop practical marketing strategies aimed at transforming the site into a more engaging and prominent cultural destination\u2014one that attracts visitors while preserving its authenticity and heritage.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

During the visit, students explored an exhibition area\u00a0showcasing\u00a0film clips, personal artefacts, and performance costumes, followed by a tour of the traditional Malay house that shaped P. Ramlee\u2019s early life. A highlight of the experience was an insightful sharing session with\u00a0Encik Abdul Malik\u00a0from\u00a0Arkib\u00a0Negara Malaysia, who shared stories that deepened students\u2019 understanding of the artist\u2019s life and era.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

More than a history lesson, the field trip encouraged students to connect marketing theory with real-world application,\u00a0demonstrating\u00a0how creative strategies can play a meaningful role in preserving and promoting Malaysia\u2019s cultural heritage.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

DISTED College is pleased to share two recent staff appointments that reflect the College\u2019s ongoing commitment to academic growth and excellence.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

We are pleased to announce the appointment of\u00a0Mr\u00a0Yee\u00a0Tianle\u00a0as the\u00a0Programme\u00a0Leader for the Marketing Degree\u00a0at DISTED College.\u00a0Mr\u00a0Yee joined DISTED in 2022 as a Marketing Lecturer and is\u00a0an alumnus\u00a0of the College, having completed both his Diploma and Degree at DISTED. He brings valuable industry experience in sales and marketing, supported by an\u00a0MBA from the University of Sunderland.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Currently teaching marketing modules at both diploma and undergraduate levels,\u00a0Mr\u00a0Yee\u2019s\u00a0strengths lie in marketing, administration, and management. His academic background, professional experience, and familiarity with the institution position him well to lead and further strengthen the Marketing Degree\u00a0programme. Please join us in congratulating\u00a0Mr\u00a0Yee\u00a0on this well-deserved appointment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

At the same time, DISTED College welcomes\u00a0Ms\u00a0Nanthini\u00a0Pattabiraman\u00a0as a\u00a0Lecturer\u00a0in\u00a0the School of Computing and Engineering.\u00a0Ms\u00a0Nanthini holds a\u00a0Master\u2019s Degree in Information Technology\u00a0from\u00a0Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM)\u00a0and brings over\u00a0nine years of IT industry experience, including her service at\u00a0AIMST University. During her tenure, she was involved in the development and maintenance of the university\u2019s official website, with a focus on usability and responsive design, and played a key role in implementing a\u00a0Learning Management System (LMS)\u00a0to support digital learning initiatives.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Motivated by her interest in teaching,\u00a0Ms\u00a0Nanthini\u00a0later served as a\u00a0Part-Time Lecturer at Asia Pacific University (APU), where she enjoyed engaging with students and supporting their academic development. She looks forward to contributing to DISTED through effective teaching, student mentoring, and collaborative academic initiatives as part of the College\u2019s continued progress.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

My name is So\u00a0<\/span>Hee<\/span>, and I am the current Head of Art & Creativity in the SRC. I really enjoy playing basketball and am a very sporty person. On my orientation day, I felt completely lost and overwhelmed, but I managed to adapt and make friends with the help of the SRC members.
