DISTED College is heartened by the exemplary achievements of our Pre-University students. At last weekend\u2019s Speechcraft event, our students delivered heartfelt presentations with poise, humor, and confidence. Well done to Matthew, Partha, Melvina, and Ying Ying.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The Cambridge A Level results, announced on 12 August 2025, were excellent: 42% of our students achieved at least one A grade. We are especially proud of Chesney, our A Level scholarship holder under the SIWU Education Trust, who achieved an outstanding 4A*. Congratulations to all our students for their remarkable accomplishments!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

My colleagues on the academic team also dedicated three days last week to enhancing student learning outcomes and broadening Work-Based Learning initiatives at DISTED. The Code of Practice for Programme Accreditation (COPPA), facilitated by Professor Dr. Sharipah Ruzaina, was both insightful and inspiring.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

We are excited to announce the integration of hands-on AI training into our Diploma in IT and Computer Science programmes starting this August. This integration will enable our Diploma in IT and Diploma in Computer Science students to earn a Pearson AI Specialist Badge, equipping them with practical, industry-relevant skills for the future.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

We also extend a warm welcome to our newest students who joined the HELP Degree Programmes during this week\u2019s orientation. We look forward to supporting their academic journey here at DISTED.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Unlike the co-curricular activities I participated in during school, I always looked forward to the next Speechcraft session. For the first time, I recognised the importance of my involvement. It was an opportunity to learn a new skill, overcome my fear of public speaking, and prepare for future interviews with greater confidence.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

I discovered that public speaking is not only about having the courage to stand before an audience. The process of writing and planning the speech is equally important. Through Speechcraft, I learned how structure, body language, vocal variety, and pacing can influence the effectiveness of a speech. When delivered well, a speech can evoke emotion and even shift perspectives.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Ms Jesscia Ang and the members of the Great2B Toastmasters Club for their guidance and support. I am also thankful to Dato’ Lim Si Boon, President of DISTED College, for sponsoring the programme and making it possible.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

As part of its commitment to academic quality and professional development, DISTED College successfully conducted two in-house training sessions in August 2025. These sessions aimed to strengthen staff understanding and implementation of the latest standards introduced by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). Both sessions were facilitated by Prof. Dr. Sharipah Ruzaina Binti Syed Aris, Dean of the Faculty of Science Education at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and a certified MQA trainer. Her expertise provided valuable insights and practical guidance to all participants.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The first session, titled \u201cIntegrating Values-Based and Sustainability into Outcome-Based Education (MQF2024),\u201d was held on 7 and 8 August. It focused on embedding values-based and sustainability elements into curriculum design and aligning teaching approaches with the updated MQF2024 framework. The second session, a one-day \u201cWorkshop on COPPA (Code of Practice for Programme Accreditation) 2nd Edition,\u201d took place on 9 August. It covered programme learning outcomes, curriculum mapping, and internal quality assurance processes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

These sessions support DISTED\u2019s ongoing efforts to uphold academic standards and prepare for future programme accreditation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

On 17 June 2025, the School of Communication, Arts and Multimedia (SCM), in collaboration with the School of Psychology at DISTED College, conducted a large-scale workshop on Cyberbullying and Stress Management at SMJK Chung Ling. The session was attended by more than 700 students, marking one of DISTED\u2019s largest outreach efforts this year aimed at promoting mental health awareness and digital responsibility among Malaysian youth. The workshop addressed the growing prevalence of cyberbullying in Malaysia, a concern that has gained urgency following several heartbreaking incidents. Malaysia currently ranks fifth globally and second in Asia for cyberbullying prevalence, according to UNICEF. The session paid particular attention to the tragic cases of Davia Emelia, a teenager who took her own life after an Instagram poll, and Esha, a young TikToker who reportedly died after being targeted by online threats during a live stream. These stories served as sobering reminders of the real-world consequences of unchecked online harassment and underscored the need for education, empathy, and proactive intervention.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The students at Chung Ling responded with energy and maturity, engaging actively in discussions and participating with great enthusiasm in the interactive segments. The session covered the emotional, physical, and psychological toll of cyberbullying, while also stressing that it is not just harmful\u2014it is illegal. Relevant Malaysian legislation was explained in simple terms, helping students understand the laws in place and their rights as digital citizens. The session concluded with guidance on how to respond if targeted, including steps to report abuse and where to turn for help\u2014whether to trusted adults, school counsellors, or relevant authorities. \u00a0<\/span>
Beyond raising awareness, the workshop aimed to empower students with knowledge and emotional resilience. At DISTED, the value of \u201ccaring\u201d extends far beyond the classroom. By addressing urgent social issues and bringing knowledge directly to young learners in schools, DISTED is committed to cultivating a generation of informed, empathetic, and responsible individuals. This workshop reflects our dedication to creating impact\u2014not just within our institution but across the wider community.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

On June 21, 2025, DISTED College had the pleasure of welcoming 13 enthusiastic secondary students from Phor Tay Private High School for a half-day educational visit. The visit was part of the college\u2019s ongoing outreach efforts to support youth development and career readiness among secondary school students.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

A key highlight of the visit was a one-hour Career Exploration Session conducted by Ms. Teoh and Mr. Chew Yong Peng, lecturers from the School of Psychology. The session aimed to introduce students to the fundamentals of career planning and self-discovery through psychological assessment tools.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The session began with an engaging and informative talk on the purpose and value of career assessments. Students learned how understanding their interests, values, and personality traits can help them make more informed and confident decisions about their future academic and career paths.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Following the introduction, students participated in the Holland Code (RIASEC) career assessment, a widely used tool that categorises individuals into six personality types\u2014Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional. With guidance from the lecturers, students interpreted their results and explored career options that align with their unique profiles.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The session also included interactive discussions and reflective exercises, allowing students to share their thoughts, ask questions, and gain deeper insights into their personal strengths and aspirations. Many students expressed newfound clarity and motivation regarding their future goals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Overall, the visit provided a meaningful and empowering experience for the students, equipping them with valuable tools for self-awareness and future planning. DISTED College recently hosted a half-day learning camp that welcomed international students from China to experience a unique blend of technology and English language learning. The camp was designed to promote communication skills, creativity, and digital literacy through student-centered activities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The session began with Emoji Me, an icebreaker that introduced identity expression through visual language. Students then participated in Mission \u2013 Survive in English!, a fast-paced Quizizz challenge focused on everyday survival phrases. This was followed by a vocabulary memory game using Interacty and a photo scavenger hunt titled Photo Quest \u2013 English Explorer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

After a short break, students engaged in Tech Bingo and Tech This or That, which encouraged verbal expression and spontaneous use of English. The final activity, Tech Word Chain, reinforced vocabulary through collaborative word-building.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

By integrating digital tools with tactile learning, the camp demonstrated how technology can enhance language acquisition. Students practiced English meaningfully while exploring tech concepts in a fun and engaging setting.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

As businesses face growing pressure to address environmental and climate-related challenges, accountants are playing a vital role in ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) reporting. Under the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards, companies must disclose how climate risks impact financial performance, operations, and strategy. These risks may lead to asset impairments, increased provisions, or shifts in revenue and cost structures.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

At DISTED College, our Diploma and Degree in Accounting programs introduce students to the fundamentals of ESG reporting and its relevance in financial decision-making. Students learn how climate-related risks affect financial statements and how technology such as accounting information systems, data analytics, and FinTech can support sustainability reporting.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

This approach builds awareness of how the accounting profession contributes to sustainable and responsible business practices.
