On December 12, 2024, the Asia PTE Partners Summit 2024 was held at the Sentral Ballroom, Hilton Kuala Lumpur, bringing together partners, educators, and stakeholders from across the region. Hosted by Pearson Tests of English (PTE), the event celebrated the year\u2019s achievements and was a platform to outline strategic plans for 2025. DISTED College was honoured with the 10 Years of Partnership Award and recognised as a member of the PTE Elite Partner Programme.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The evening commenced with a cocktail reception, allowing attendees to connect, share experiences, and build meaningful relationships. This was followed by keynote addresses from prominent speakers, including Giovanni Giovannelli, President of English Language Learning at Pearson, who emphasised the importance of partnerships in advancing English language proficiency. Matthew Lampkin, Director of PTE Asia, reflected on the program’s 2024 successes and presented strategies for 2025. Guy Perring, Regional Director for Etio, and Hon. Phil Honeywood, CEO of the International Education Association of Australia, offered valuable insights into global education trends and the international education landscape.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

A key highlight of the event was the launch of the “Beyond PTE” initiative, showcasing Pearson\u2019s commitment to supporting students\u2019 academic and career journeys through innovative tools. The Awards Ceremony honoured the outstanding achievements of top-performing PTE partners across Asia, followed by a sumptuous dinner that fostered camaraderie among attendees. Liz O\u2019Neill, Senior Director of Product Management, shared updates on new initiatives and resources designed to empower partners and enhance their ability to support students worldwide.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

I was privileged to attend the Asia PTE Partners Summit 2024 on 12<\/span>th<\/span> December 2024 in Kuala Lumpur. At the prestigious event, DISTED College was honoured for its decade-long Partnership Award and recognised as a member of the PTE Elite Partner Programme.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

As we reflect on the growing importance of English language proficiency in shaping academic and professional success, the Pearson Test of English (PTE) has emerged as a vital tool in equipping students with the skills needed to thrive in an interconnected, globalised world.     One cutting-edge technique that can improve teaching and learning is with the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in class. AI offers useful support in information gathering, customizing classes, and providing prompt assignment feedback. Through interactive applications, it provides students with a platform for acquiring knowledge, writing practice, and skill development. However, appropriate comprehension and ethical considerations are necessary for the successful usage of AI in the classroom.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

    To use AI responsibly in the classroom, teachers and students should regard it as a complement to critical thinking and creativity, not a substitute. At DISTED College, this principle is emphasised across all classes. Tools like ChatGPT, Grammarly, and language translation applications help students enhance their writing, brainstorm ideas, and grasp complex concepts. Educators can leverage AI to develop engaging lesson plans and tailor materials to diverse learning preferences. However, verifying the accuracy and relevance of AI-sourced information remains essential to ensure its reliability and educational value.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

    Relying excessively on AI for assignment can have significant\u202fimpacts on students. While AI can help with idea generations, drafting, and editing, too much reliance on technology could hinder the development of crucial abilities like independent research, problem-solving, and creative thinking. Copying AI-generated content without proper modification can also lead to plagiarism, which can carry academic and ethical consequences.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

    In the long run, balance is necessary for effective AI use in education. AI should be welcomed as a tool by educators and learners alike, and a dedication to education, innovation, and moral behaviour should be encouraged to both parties.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

I understand\u2014I\u2019ve been there too. Creating endless to-do lists or decorating a beautiful vision board may feel productive, but without the right approach, they can turn into reminders of what hasn\u2019t been done, rather than what <\/span>can<\/span><\/i> be achieved.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

              \u00a0<\/span>So, how do we change this narrative? How can we set goals that are not only motivating but also achievable? The answer lies in understanding the \u201chow\u201d and the \u201cwhy\u201d behind our goal-setting process. Goals are more than dreams\u2014they are destinations. And to reach them, we need a clear roadmap.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

              Goal setting is the deliberate process of identifying what you want to achieve and creating a structured plan to make it happen.                                   The DISTED Science Club held an appreciation lunch on December 13th, offering a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the enthusiasm and commitment of its members. This event highlighted their achievements and reflected on the knowledge gained through various scientific activities conducted throughout the year. It was a moment to acknowledge how classroom learning in subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, and Physics provided a strong theoretical foundation for experiments while also fostering innovative thinking\u2014skills essential for solving real-world problems. The experience also eased the transition from academic learning to practical application.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

                                  One of the most enriching aspects of being part of the Science Club is how classroom lessons directly inform and enhance club activities. For example, concepts from biology about bodily systems came alive during a talk on how certain chemicals affect brain functions. Similarly, during chemistry lessons, members applied the basics of salt formation in an experiment using double decomposition, resulting in vibrant, colorful salts. By integrating classroom theories into hands-on projects, members not only deepened their understanding but also honed critical thinking and teamwork skills. Collaborating on these experiments often required innovative problem-solving and resilience, fostering a sense of camaraderie among the members.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

                                  As the appreciation lunch concluded, members left with a profound sense of accomplishment and a clearer vision of their impact\u2014both within the school and beyond.                                   Held on 21st November 2024 at DISTED College, the Colloquium 2024 was an inspiring event that brought together Bachelor of Psychology students, faculty members, and attendees keen to deepen their understanding of psychology. Open to anyone with a passion for the field, the colloquium offered a dynamic platform for academic exchange, creative expression, and collaborative learning.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

                                  \u00a0<\/span>The event commenced with an engaging opening speech by Prof. Dr. Vikneswaran Nair, who emphasised the significance of curiosity and collaboration in advancing knowledge. This set the tone for the day’s activities, which began with a faculty sharing session. The session featured insightful presentations: Ms. Syahirah Farwin on World Men’s Mental Health, Ms. Teoh Ker Hsin on Statistics, Ms. Thiresyinie Tamil Chelvam on Presentation Skills, and Ms. Thevanai Indra Sellappan on Self-Introduction and Self-Awareness.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

                                  \u00a0<\/span>A highlight of the day was the thesis presentations, divided into FYP C (VIVA) and FYP B (Oral Defense) categories. Students presented their research on a variety of topics, showcasing their analytical skills, creativity, and dedication. These sessions provided an excellent opportunity for students to receive constructive feedback and refine their presentation techniques.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

                                  \u00a0<\/span>Adding a creative dimension to the event, the PSY317 Short Film Screenings and PSY322 Video Showcase captivated the audience with their artistic interpretations of psychological concepts.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>
