DISTED College Library\u00a0organised an\u00a0activity\u00a0for\u00a0DISTED community, \u2018Project Work: Make it Easy with The Big 6\u2019\u00a0on\u00a0July 21, 2022,\u00a0at Room 6, DISTED College\u00a0from\u00a01:00 pm to\u00a03:00 pm.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

The guest speaker invited for this session is the\u00a0Director of OUM Learning Center Penang, Puan Norhayati Razali. \u00a0She has been actively introducing Information Literacy to schools and other communities since 2004 in Malaysia and Indonesia.\u00a0She was selected as a panel in the National Information Literacy Agenda (Schools) in 2021 under the Information Literacy Movement of the National Library of Malaysia.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>

The objectives of the\u00a0session\u00a0were:<\/span><\/span><\/p>

1.\u00a0To learn how to develop and execute an effective search strategy using a wide range of search tools, accurately interpret results, and find authoritative information pertinent to the topic.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

2.\u00a0To learn how to evaluate the relevance, quality, authoritativeness, and credibility of information retrieved.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>

This session\u00a0was\u00a0divided into 2 segments; The first segment was an introduction to The Big 6.\u00a0Participants were\u00a0introduced\u00a0to\u00a0The Big 6 Information literacy model.\u00a0They learnt that\u00a0The Big 6 was developed by Mike Eisenberg and Bob Berkowitz and is the most popular approach to teaching information and technology skills for schools and Higher Educational Institutions in the world.\u00a0The Big 6\u00a0integrates information search and use skills along with technology tools in a systematic process to find, use, apply, and evaluate information for specific needs and tasks.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>

The second segment was\u00a0a\u00a0practical exercise.\u00a0Participants were divided into 5 groups. They were required to choose an article, read, skim and scan the information, transfer the information into Illustration, Mandala or Mind Mapping\u00a0based on The Big 6 process.\u00a0At the end of the session, each group\u00a0gave a presentation. The speaker was\u00a0impressed\u00a0by the participants understanding of the model and\u00a0how they were able to apply the Big 6 process during the presentation.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>

This session was\u00a0attended by a total\u00a0of 18\u00a0participants.\u00a0The speaker provided\u00a0excellent insights\u00a0into The Big 6 process and has helped the participants understand how to use this process.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Participants can now put into practice the knowledge gained when doing\u00a0their future assignments and projects.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
