BTEC Higher National Diploma

All you need to know about the BTEC Higher National Diploma.

The BTEC (Business & Technology Education Council) is a work-related qualification suitable for a wide range of students, built to accommodate the needs of employers and allow progression to university. A BTEC is a vocational qualification that places emphasis on assignments, projects, practical learning and understanding of courses. They provide a more practical, real-world approach to learning alongside a key theoretical background. BTEC students are assessed based on skills and knowledge.
BTEC is awarded by Edexcel, UK’s largest awarding body accredited by the UK Government’s Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA).
DISTED delivers the BTEC Level 5 Higher National Diploma (HND) qualification in addition to its existing Diploma.
Currently, new students enrolling in 2016 for the following diploma programmes will be automatically eligible for the double award of a DISTED Diploma and a BTEC HND:
• Diploma in Accounting
• Diploma in Business Information Technology
• Diploma in Business Studies
• Diploma in Computer Science
• Diploma in Creative Multimedia Production
• Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
• Diploma in Hospitality Business Management
As a BTEC-approved centre, DISTED carefully and adequately tailors its diploma programmes, assessment instruments and learning outcomes to match the stringent requirements needed to deliver the BTEC HND qualifications. Thus, students will not need to take up additional classes or credit hours to gain the BTEC HND.
No, this is because all 16 papers required for the BTEC HND qualification are already offered through DISTED’s existing Diploma programmes. Students only need to complete the Diploma programme in the stipulated study period of their respective programmes.
The BTEC level 5 HND is widely recognised as equivalent to one or two years of university education. Most BTEC HND holders will be able to progress directly to the final year (Year 3) when pursuing degree programmes at leading universities worldwide. BTEC HND holders pursuing degree programmes at local institutions in Malaysia are generally exempted from the first year of their degree programme.
The grading criteria for BTEC HND is Pass, Merit or Distinction
Distinction* (D*) grade equivalent to A-Level A grade (270 points)
Distinction (D) grade equivalent to A-Level grade between B and C (225 points)
Merit grade equivalent to A-Level grade between C and D (195 points)
Pass grade equivalent to A-Level grade between D and E (165 points)
DISTED is the only institution of higher learning in north Malaysia fully endorsed by Edexcel to exclusively offer the BTEC HND qualification in Business Studies, Accounting, Hospitality Business Management, Engineering, Computer Science and Creative Multimedia.

The advantage of a BTEC HND is the ability to fast track to a university degree qualification and to be ahead of your peers.

When you enrol for the Diploma programme at DISTED, you are automatically enrolled into the BTEC HND programme. At the end of your studies, you can graduate with a DISTED Diploma and a BTEC HND.
The BTEC HND is recognised by 95% of higher education institutions in the UK, and over 200 leading universities worldwide – including several of The Times top-100 ranked universities in Australia, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong. Over 70 professional bodies – including Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) recognise the BTEC qualification. International employers such as Shell, BAE Systems, PWC and Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group all actively recruit BTEC graduates.

The BTEC HND is also recognised by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).

DISTED offers a competitive and affordable fee package that covers both the Diploma and BTEC HND, which is substantially lower than all other institutions in Malaysia offering the BTEC. Tuition fee is payable based on the number of credits taken each semester.
