Some 54 students from 27 secondary schools competed individually against each and another in a team of two on 8 April, in DISTED Culinary Challenge 2017’s semifinals at DISTED Wawasan City Campus.
“The purpose of this competition is to increase the interest in culinary arts, a field of study among the school students that offers a centre stage for students looking to showcase their culinary prowess and creativity,” said Ms Susie Khoo, The Head of School of Hospitality and Management.
Contestants were pitted against one another under intense pressurizing situation and used only the ingredients’ list provided to create their own pasta dish in 60 minutes.
Panel judges from Chef Sivasegaran Balagangdaram the Executive Chef from Hotel Jen and Chef Danny Ng the Co-owner and Chef from The Eighty Eight Restaurant Penang evaluated the dishes based on taste, creativity and presentation.
Nine teams have made it through to the final which will take place on 22nd April at DISTED Wawasa City Campus located at China Street Ghaut that houses DISTED College’s School of Hospitality Management.
