DISTED College, in the spirit of continuous improvement, has implemented some upgrades and infrastructural developments throughout the first quarter of 2015 towards an overall enhanced college life experience for students.
One of the significant upgrades is the increase the bandwidth for broadband access in both campuses. According to Ms Lak Hoong Ying, Head of IT Management and Services, students at the Yeap Chor Ee Heritage Campus now enjoy faster Internet speeds of 30Mbps, 12 Mbps and 4 Mbps while those at the Wawasan City Campus can surf at speeds of 12Mbps, 8Mbps and 4Mbps respectively.
To cater to more diverse taste buds, a new eatery, Dillie Deli, has started operations at the Yeap Chor Ee Heritage Campus since early March. The deli serves a variety of halal Malay and western food, desserts and cakes.
For all stationery needs, students can now patronise the new campus bookstore, aptly named Books ‘n Stuff. Reference books and exclusive DISTED paraphernalia are also available on sale at Books ‘n Stuff. Students have the option of using their 1Malaysia book vouchers for their purchases.
This year also sees the college experimenting with a new concept and environment for lectures and meetings. For this purpose, a fully-carpeted room designated as The Mind Maker is furnished with lounge chairs, ambient lighting and necessary audio-visual facilities to create a laid back yet learning-conducive atmosphere. This departure from the traditional lecture room will hopefully spark a new form of learning style that encourages collaborations and interactions between the lecturer and students.
For a start, the Mind Maker is being utilised by students undertaking the Bachelor of Psychology (Hons) programme for lectures and psychological research purposes. The new concept, if proven effective, will be gradually implemented across the College.
Do look forward to more changes and innovations coming soon for a more cutting-edge college experience at DISTED!
