What Is IELTS?
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is jointly managed by the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (Cambridge ESOL), British Council and IDP: IELTS Australia.

IELTS is a specialized international English proficiency qualification. It conforms to the highest international standards of language assessment. It covers the four language skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing.

It is designed to assess the language ability of candidates who wish to study in institutions of higher education or work in places where English is the language of communication.

It will give potential candidates an idea of whether their English is at the required level to hit the target score band of 6 or above.

Topics

  • Requirements and format of the IELTS examination.
• Question types: Multiple choice, short-answer questions, sentence completion, chart/table completion, summary completion and matching.
  • Read academic passages for short answer questions and matching lists.
• Speaking tasks: Respond to an introduction and sustain a conversation on the topic given.
  • Translate graphic information into linear form using own words.
• Use of correct and appropriate language to report statistical information
  • Writing task 1: Practice
• Writing task 2: Different essay types and writing in an appropriate style.
  • Focus and active listening.
• Practise listening test with set tasks.
• Mock speaking test: Respond to examiner and discuss given statement with a partner.
  • Mock listening test based on IELTS examination and feedback.
• Mock writing tests.
  • Feedback on writing tests for improvement.
• More speaking practice: Extended conversation on a suggested theme and discussion.
  • Read a variety of passages and know the question types.
• Mock reading test based on IELTS examination and feedback.

Course Duration
10 lessons of 3 hours each totalling 30 hours.
Typically, classes are held on Saturdays over 10 weeks.

Requirements
Any student with SPM is eligible to sit for IELTS.

 


Examination
The IELTS test is conducted at least once a month and more often at peak times at IDP: IELTS Australia and the British Council in Penang. Results are available within two weeks of the test.

Intake 1: January 16 to March 27 (No class on January 30). 10% tuition fees discount if register by January 4.

Intake 2: April 10 – June 26 (No classes on May 1 and June 5)

Intake 3: July 24 – October 2 (No class on September 11)

Intake 4: October 9 – December 11
