Welcome new students!

Tertiary education is nothing new to Gurinder Pal Singh of New Delhi, India, who holds a master of science in ecology and environmental science from Sikkhim Manipal University.

“I’m now taking the American hospitality management course at DISTED as I intend to work for my uncle who runs a hotel and a college in Vancouver, Canada,” said Gurinder.

“I’ve taken a first-hand look at the college campus and it has good teaching infrastructure. A friend of mine in Penang also recommended DISTED to me. Furthermore, its fees are very reasonable among the colleges that I’ve visited in Penang and the Klang Valley,” he said.

Gurinder was among the latest batch of new pre-university, business studies and hospitality management students who commenced their studies at DISTED on 3 January 2006.

The enrolment of former SMK Penang Free student Muhammad Taufik is a reflection of his family’s confidence in the college’s lecturers.

“My parents were glad that DISTED’s lecturers motivated my brother, who did the hospitality management course, to change his attitude for the better towards studying. He is now completing a business administration degree in Perth,” he said.

“My parents and brother regard DISTED as a college of choice and encouraged me to enrol in it,” said Muhammad who is pursuing the Diploma in Business Studies as he intends to help out in his father's business in property management.

For 5 schoolmates from SMK Convent Green Lane, Soo Hoo Mei Foong, Teh Huey Ying, Ooi Xi Yan, Carol Goh Chew Yuen and Pamela Ooi Gaik Xin, their paths crossed again at DISTED.

Soo chose to study the Diploma in Hospitality Management at DISTED based on pricing consideration and word-of-mouth recommendations.

“The course fees at DISTED are much more affordable than the other colleges. My school friends who completed the course here spoke very well of the college’s facilities and lecturers,” said Soo who hopes to run her own food catering business.

Pre-university freshie Ooi said: “DISTED has a good reputation as the college for A-Level Science. The 11-month course leads to faster entry into university.”

A liking for business subjects such as economics led Teh to enrol in the Diploma in Business Studies.

“I’m keen on business studies. I believe DISTED’s broad-based curriculum will give me a sound knowledge in business and a good learning experience. My friends told me the college has a conducive study environment with good and caring lecturers,” said Teh.
