Gala night for hospitality students

It was a gala evening of merriment, camaraderie and entertainment amidst glorious food at the fraternity celebration for DISTED College hospitality students.

Held at the Eastin Hotel on 6 July 2012, the event marked yet another impactful extracurricular experience in their college life, which galvanized the presence of both junior and senior students as well as college staff.

Apart from good music, making the night even more special and sizzling were the musical performances, dance shows and vocal presentations by the hospitality students.

With its mission of ‘HM (Hospitality Management) Awards’, the occasion honoured the personality traits of hospitality students in 9 categories such as Best Smile, Best Joker and Best Sleeper.

“The awards were meant to highlight the lighter side of life and humanity that we see in each other as we pass through the portals of the college. The personality celebrities of the night were nominated and decided by their hospitality peers.

“Through the ‘HM Awards’, we celebrated our diverse characters that make humanity colourful,” said event organizing chairman and Diploma in Hospitality Business Management student Ernest Leow Yan Cher.

The dinner gathering also provided the opportunity to bid farewell to their graduating seniors and welcome new students on board.

“We said ‘goodbye’ and ‘welcome’ in elegance and style, making it memorable for them and adding significance to our spirit of fraternity.

“The occasion gave us a good time of mingling around to share fun and strengthen bonding,” Ernest Leow noted.

He said the event was a valuable practical learning exposure for the 15-member organizing committee.

“It challenged our positive thinking, determination and resourcefulness, which are essential traits in event management.

“We gained experiential insights into managing people, resources and time besides honing communication skills and inter-personal skills.

“It was also a real-life experience in crisis management as we had to deal with all the facets of organizing the function within a short span of less than a month,” Ernest Leow recalled.

Also present at the function were DISTED president Dr Koo Wee Kor, administration director Dr Liew Yueah Cin, director of studies Ahmad Taiff Isahak, School of Hospitality head Susie Khoo and marketing manager Jane Goh Mei Ping.
