Hike to Pantai Kerachut

A group of DISTED College students and staff went on a hiking trip to Pantai Kerachut to foster fraternal bonding and a keener appreciation of nature. 

“We walked through a lush green jungle trail and enjoyed the fresh morning air in the 2-hour hike to the beach.

“The sandy track had been upgraded by the National Park authorities, making it much easier to hike,” said DISTED international student executive Ko Ko Naing of the event held on 19 May 2012, which was organized by the student services department and the international student office.

The participants included the college’s hostel residents and 20 foreign students from various countries such as Indonesia, Thailand, China and Albania.

Apart from Ko Ko, the other staff participants were student services department head Tony Toh Chi Eng, student services executive Kelvin Lim Kah Hin, international student officer Jacinta Wong Chin Ying and School of Psychology head Dr Gavin Macdonell.  

“The hike was a good physical exercise besides having a good time of camaraderie.  

“In line with the college’s Let’s Go Green campaign, the activity was also to enhance love and care for the natural environment,” Tony Toh said. 

Near the beach, the participants visited and explored a turtle habitat farm and learned more about the process of protecting the near extinct animal.

While the others travelled by boat on the return trip, Kelvin Lim and Indonesian student Kelvin Scorpio decided to take a hiking journey. 

“It was to challenge our physical stamina and enjoy the company of nature,” Kelvin Lim noted. 

Kelvin Scorpio added: “The hike back was fun. It was a much easier journey too probably because we were more familiar with the track by then.” 

Before calling it a day, the hiking team had a relaxing time of interaction over lunch at the Sri Ananda Bahwan restaurant.
