Library staff geared for greater challenges

DISTED College library assistants Nazeerah Yunus and Scarlett Lim Bee Huang strive to keep abreast with the latest trends in library service so as to better serve the college community. 

They attended a 3-day course on library management conducted by Universiti Teknologi MARA Merbok in Kedah from 7 to 9 December 2009.

“We participated in the programme to polish our library service skills and get more information about library environment,” Nazeerah said. 

“The training experience was particularly useful and enriching as the workshop topics were relevant to the college’s library system. 

“What I’ve learnt can be put into practice to enhance the efficiency of counter services of the library,” she said. 

“I’m glad that now I’m better skilled for my job, for which I would like to thank the college management, chief librarian Puan Rashidah Begum and librarian Puan Fairunizan,” Nazeerah added. 

DISTED library assistant Scarlett Lim Bee Huang attended the UiTM Merbok library management course.

Scarlett said: “The areas covered in the training included quality customer service and professionalism, cataloguing and management of files and records.” 

“I’ve also gained exposure to library marketing to promote the use of a modern library to the young generation. 

“It’s essential for library staff to provide fast, courteous and efficient services to endear users to the library environment,” she said. 

“The training also imparted knowledge on planning my career development. 

“Nazeerah and I will conduct an echo session next week to share our marvellous learning experiences with the college staff,” Scarlett added.
