An art exhibition by Cheah Su May (better known as SuMay) was held recently at UHotel in Sungai Dua from 22 – 30 August 2015.
SuMay is one of DISTED’s alumni as she studied in the South Australian Matriculation programme (now known as SACE) in 2004 where she still remembers her lecturers like Ms Lucy, Ms Geong and Cikgu Jameeyah who taught her then. After her one year in DISTED she left to pursue a business degree in Taylors College and at University of Technology, Sydney.
SuMay now works for her own company dealing in brand consulting and dabbles part time in art and photography, something she had always had an interest in. With her ex-classmate Lay Hoon (better known as ArtyGuava) they formed OtherHalf (OH) to kick off an art project which culminated in this exhibition of their recent works.
OH was conceived as an avenue for both of them to harness their creative energy to create something special. As the name suggests, it is a partnership between two uniquely different artists. One fills the gaps for the other and as a unit, they work to elevate their creative ideas to reach beyond their individual capacity.
SuMay and ArtyGuava uses water colour and photography to create works that evokes a sense of positivity, energy and joy. In this current exhibition visitors will be entranced by their colourful and dreamy interpretations of classic nyonya designs and traditional Penang houses.
Both of them believe that the art of giving will make a better world and that we should all do our part in giving back to the community.
