A leadership talk was organised for Year 2 Staffordshire University students on 12th May 2017.The two hour power talk was delivered by Dr Robert Kirby, the founder of Kirby Leadership Academy.
The talk was based on Dr Kirby’s first leadership book entitled “Dancing Dragon or Headless Chicken – Unleashing the Leader in You”. He emphasised the need for good leaders in the ever changing environment and the first step in leadership is to lead oneself.
Based on the acronym of “Dancing Dragon” he shared with students on the characteristics of good leaders which encompass being decisive, authentic, never give up, continuous learner, influencer, neutral under pressure, great team builder and many more.
Dr Kirby with his charisma and humour disposition brought new insight and motivation to the students. Students who took the initiative to share on stage also walked away with his book that comes with his personalised signature.
The organiser of the talk, Ms Elaine Chan cited that breaking away from the normal classroom teaching and bringing guest speaker to her class is one way of challenging students to see things in a different perspective. It is important to inculcate both technical knowledge and soft skills in the development of a student.
