DISTED held its annual Deepavali luncheon for its staff at the multi-purpose hall with an array of scrumptious dishes on 26th October.
The President and CEO of DISTED College Dr Seah Soo Aun and guest Professor Nagao from Toyohashi University of Technology, Penang office lit up the lamp to mark the triumph of knowledge over ignorance.
Other invited guest included staff from the Wawasan Open University.
During the opening remark, Dr Seah emphasised the importance of DISTED’s Four Key Pillars, which is Trust and Respect, Accountability and Performance, To Be Customer Focus and last but not least, Plan, Innovate, Communicate and Implement.
Mrs Allen walked away with the first prize for being The Best Dressed followed by Ms Annie and Ms Mardziah whom were both runner ups.
It was indeed a simple yet fun filled luncheon for everyone.
Squeals of delight and laughter filled the air as 20 children in the Shan Home for Children in Mount Erskine played musical chairs and ball throwing at the hall of the Home on 7th October, 2017. They were being led by 5 students from the School of Pre-U Studies of DISTED College.
The students and their mentor, Datin Helen Lim Pin Lean, had gone to visit the children in the Home to bring them a “Day of Happiness”, the underlying theme of the Teddy Project.
The Teddy Project was introduced to DISTED College in the year 2009 when Datin Helen took her Pre-U class student to help distribute soft toys to the children in the paediatric wards of the Penang General Hospital. Since then she has made the project an annual one for the Pre-U students of the College with the blessings and sponsorship from the College.
At the Shan Home, we presented each child with a soft toy and a gift bag. Then the games began! Both the DISTED students and the children of the Home had a great time!
We also visited the Ru Yi Home for Children located just opposite the Shan Home. For the Ru Yi Home, we did not have much time to play with the children as they were getting ready for dinner. We gave them the gift bags sponsored by DISTED College. Hoong Wei made a personal monetary contribution to the Ru Yi Home.
Chen Ni, a participant at the Shan Home visit, felt that it was “great to see the children all smiling and laughing with much joy”; and to “have this opportunity to participate in doing good.deeds”. This sentiment is echoed by her classmates, Alissa, Daryl and Alysha.
It was a good outing!
