Awards and Bursaries

Generous awards and bursaries are provided each year by DISTED to encourage the development of a relevant, excellent and complete ambience in the college, leading to graduates with good knowledge, skills and positive contributive attributes to serve the industry and community.

The Wawasan Education Foundation and the Yeap Chor Ee Charitable Trust are instrumental in providing significant funding to achieve the mission. The awards and bursaries are based on merit which encompasses both academic and socio-economic background of the applicants.

  1. The awards and bursaries are open to all nationalities who sat for the relevant examinations and they must be new or commencing students of the programme of study.
  2. The awards and bursaries are given based on examination results. All fees must be paid in the interim.
  1. All awards and bursaries are only tenable for the period of study at DISTED in Penang and recipients are not allowed to hold two (2) DISTED awards or bursaries concurrently. In the event a student is qualified for more than one award, the higher award will be given.
  2. The awards and bursaries can only be utilised to defray the fees for the programmer of study conducted at the college and is not transferable and not redeemable for cash.
  1. The awards and bursaries will take effect only after the signing of the agreement, and should the recipients withdraw from the programme of study prematurely for whatever reasons will result in the immediate cessation of this award. Recipient is required to refund the college the amount of the scholarship that has been disbursed and to pay all outstanding fees due to the college within 14 days from the date of withdrawal. Any financial penalties incurred as a result of the actions or inactions of the Awardee will be the sole responsibility of the recipient.
  1. Your parents or guardian is required to act as a guarantor in respect of the refund of your scholarship to the college and/or payment of any outstanding course fees due to the college in the event that you withdraw prematurely from the course.
  1. Recipients must maintain continuous, full time enrollment for the entire duration of their programme. Full-time status entails enrollment in a minimum of 4 subjects or 16 credit hours during the regular semester and 2 subjects or 8 credit hours during the short semester. Reduction of course load to less than full-time status may result in ineligibility for this award.
  1. Changes in enrollment status after the start of the commencement may affect the status of the Award. Any changes must be made in consultation with your Head of School / Programme Coordinator, notify the Scholarship Unit and to be approved by Scholarship Committee.
  1. Recipients must achieve good academic performance to maintain their awards, as mentioned in section A, B, C, D and E.
  1. Recipients must be prepared to serve in various administrative roles for 16 hours per long semester or take part in student activities specified by DISTED, if required to do so by the college.
  1. It is compulsory for recipients to attend the AWARD AND PRIZE PRESENTATION CEREMONY at your own cost.
  1. All decisions of the DISTED Scholarship Board on the quantum and conditions are final and binding.
  1. Recipient who failed to fulfil the general criteria and conditions of the Awards and Bursaries Policy and proper conduct as stipulated in the student handbook may result in the suspension, termination, nullification or required to refund to the college the amount of the scholarship that has been disbursed to you, and to pay all outstanding course fees due to the college.
  1. The application closing date is 10 working days from the programme commencement date. Late applications will not be accepted.

DISTED 30th Anniversary Special Scholarship

Terms and Conditions

  1. The 30TH SPECIAL Scholarship application deadline is 10th April 2017
  2. The award will be based on the following criteria
    – Actual SPM/IGCSE results of the year 2016 (8 A’s and above)
    – Co-curricular activities
    – Interview

    – Personal Statement (400 – 500 words)
    – Any other outstanding personal achievement
  3. Only results of the most recent sitting will be considered. Applicants MUST obtain their results in only one sitting and not combine them over several examination sessions
  4. The award will cover TUITION FEES and MPU FEES ONLY for the entire duration of the program
  5. Should students fail to complete the program in the stipulated time, the subsequent semesters must be paid in full
  6. For students in the A-level program, should the recipient choose to switch durations, the scholarship will be null and void on the subsequent semesters.
  7. Should students defer or switch to a new program, the scholarship will be null and void
  8. Recipients of this award are NOT required to perform any compulsory duties but will be required to participate in promotional activities at the discretion of the college
  9. All other conditions not stated in this T&C will adhere to the General Criteria and Conditions of the Awards and Bursaries policy OF DISTED COLLEGE
  10. DISTED reserves the right to amend the above conditions at any given time without prior notice
  11. The decision of the COLLEGE will be final and no disputes/appeals/objections will be entertained thereafter

Terms and Conditions

  1. Students with 9A’s (A+, A, A-) in their SPM/IGCSE 2016 examinations are eligible to apply for this award. To apply, simply fill up the Awards & Bursaries application to enjoy this scholarship.
  2. The award will be RM7,000 off tuition fees in the first year of studies or over 2 long semesters.
  3. Should the award exceed the total amount of tuition fees, the balance will not be reimbursed in cash.
  4. After the disbursement of this award, the recipient will revert to the Merit Award for the subsequent years of studies subject to the recipient maintaining their grades as per the Awards & Bursaries policy.
  5. No interview is required for this award.
  6. Recipients need not perform any duties nor maintain any results throughout the duration of the award.
  7. Results must be in one sitting.
  8. Should students switch programs, the award will be null & void.
  9. Limited funds available.

Award: RM4,000 for a year or over 2 long semesters

Criteria:

Terms and Conditions

  1. Applicants must be enrolling for any of DISTED’s degree programs (SU or HELP).
  2. The award is available for March, May, July, August and September 2017 intakes only.
  3. No interviews required.
  4. Limited to the first 25 applicants only.
  5. Students may apply for the Degree Award in the subsequent year.
  6. This award is only for non-DISTED students applying to DISTED’s degree programs.
  7. All other conditions not stated in this T&C will adhere to the General Criteria and Conditions of the Awards and Bursaries policy.
  8. DISTED reserves the right to amend the above conditions at any given time without prior notice.
  9. The decision of the panel will be final and no disputes/appeals/objections will be entertained thereafter.

Award: RM22,500 for the entire program (tuition fee waiver over 4 or 5 long semesters only)

Terms and Conditions

  1. This scholarship is only applicable for students applying for the Diploma in Computer Science (Software Engineering stream) in May 2017 only
  2. Combine parental income of RM8,000 or below. Applicants must submit the following documents for verification:
    – Both parents’ payslip
    – Both parents’ Income Tax Declaration
  3. 2 A’s and above in the recent SPM/IGCSE examinations.
  4. Minimum of B in Add Maths and Modern Maths
  5. Interview required
  6. Personal statement of not more than 500 words
  7. All other conditions not stated in this T&C will adhere to the General Criteria and Conditions of the Awards and Bursaries policy.

Section A

Criteria and Conditions

  1. Should students switch from 12 months to 18 months in their Pre-University programme, there will be no upgrade in the award.
  1. Should students switch from 18 months to 12 months in their Pre-University programme, the award will be downgraded accordingly.
  1. The diploma tuition fee waiver will be disbursed over the long semesters only.

Section B

Criteria and Conditions

  1. Degree awards are available for deserving students with good extra-curricular activities.
  1. The tuition fee waiver will be disbursed over the long semesters only.
  1. Only shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview.

Section C

Criteria and Conditions

  1. Awarded to students with at least state level representation in sports prior to joining or while studying at DISTED.
  1. The tuition fee waiver will be disbursed over the long semesters only.
  1. Only shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview.

Section D

Criteria and Conditions

  1. Selection is based on socio-economic background, academic achievements and extramural merits of students who are registered with the Social Welfare Department as individuals with disabilities.

Section E

Criteria and Conditions
  1. The scholarship is awarded to Diploma and/or Degree students with the best overall results in their semester examinations. The President’s Scholar receives a tuition fee rebate and an Appreciation Certificate for their achievement.
  1. Students must enroll a minimum of 15 credits in their long semester and 6 credits in their short semester to be eligible for consideration.
  1. Selection is based on GPA per semester exam (minimum 3.40 / 4.00). In the event of a tie, selection will be based on the overall CGPA marks.
  1. The recipient of the President’s Scholar Award is selected by the Head of School.
